WA Plantation Resources (WAPRES)
WA Plantation Resources has been seeking to establish a major woodchip mill within the south west. It is proposed that the mill will produce one million tonnes per annum of high grade woodchips for export to international paper mills. This is a large project of State importance for the development of the plantation industry and regional transportation issues within the South West.
The capital cost of establishing the mill will be approximately $12 million, and it is anticipated the project will generate about $100 million of export earnings, with the majority of this flowing into the South West region as operational and capital costs.
TME has played a key role is the investigation of potential site selections and assisting with the project co-ordination, appointment and supervision of sub consultants, public relations, feasibility and budget planning. There has been significant community consultation and examination of environmental, transport and servicing requirements.
TME has been responsible for the formal development applications and the resultant legal processes to ensure the approval of the project, including the successful appeals to both the Minister for Planning and the State Administration Tribunal.
