Lennard Road

TME undertook design for a 3km extension of Lennard Road in Dardanup for a rural subdivision. The lots in the subdivision had a minimum size of 40ha. With the largest lot being 53.8ha.

The design of Lennard road was challenging due to the terrain being very steep. The terrain crossfalls can reach up to 25% and the longitudinal grades of the road reach up to 10%. The initial design involved utilisation of aerial contours to produce a concept design. There were multiple variations of concept designs before finally settling with a design that worked in with the terrain and that suited the needs of the client.

Once the alignment was selected then site specific Geotechnical investigations were undertaken to provide solutions to landslip areas and provide necessary parameters for the road design.

Design for the drainage was developed to minimise costs to the client. Open drains with specifically designed outlet pits were used to accommodate the large amounts of rainfall runoff. Dissipator basins were also used to prevent scouring of the land.

The upgrade of existing Lennard Road was also incorporated into the project.

The release of stage 1 incorporated 500m of new road and 660m of upgrade to Lennard Road.
