Emu Point, Albany

Ongoing flooding problems at various locations throughout Emu Point in Albany led to the engagement of TME by the City of Albany to determine solutions.

TME prepared a XPSTORM model of all existing pipework and assessed the existing system.

Problem areas were determined and upgrades recommended. The resultant recommendations then became part of the City of Albany’s capital works programme for drainage improvements.

The review of the Emu Point drainage system also identified opportunities to incorporate elements of Water Sensitive Urban Design.

The sandy nature of soils enable infiltration at the source to be a viable option for the locality.

The City of Albany has subsequently adopted some at-source-infiltration solutions rather than undertake major pipework upgrades. These have been very successful at limiting the previously extensive local flooding and were undertaken at low cost.
