Boronia Ridge, Walpole
Because of its close proximity to the Walpole Inlet and the adjacent wetlands this development came under intense scrutiny from local environmental groups. Close attention was required to retention of existing vegetation as well as treatment and disposal of urban stormwater runoff. TME Director of Engineering Wayne Edgeloe developed a unique system that maximised infiltration opportunities at the source for the stormwater while also allowing a piped overflow relief drainage system. Soakwells were used in conjunction with conventional side entry pits to capture first flush and the regular smaller storm events. Larger events were then conveyed in a pipe system for disposal in Public Open Space Areas by either Infiltration basins or flow dissipators.
This project is listed as an example case study in Chapter 9 of the Department of Water Stormwater Management Manual. |
